ABSTRACT The polymorphism of 13 genetic markers in three racial groups (whites, mulattos and blacks) of the population of Pinar del Río province (Cuba) was investigated. Differences among phenotypic rates in 8 of the 13 markers studied were found. The allelic frequencies in the markers that showed differences were highly significant among the racial groups. The loci investigated were able to clearly differentiate one racial group from the others. This finding confirms the presumption that the population of this region is not homogeneous.
